MO Right to Life Against Amendment 3

Sunday, October 15, 2006

MO Right to Life Page

The Missouri Right to Life Organization is taking a stand against the proposed tobacco tax increase. They oppose it on the grounds that there is no language in the bill that prevents the funds from being used to pay for abortions, should they be deemed "medically necessary". They also make another argument: "The tobacco tax would be a regressive tax that would hurt ordinary folks far more than other people because the cost of cigarettes is proportionally a greater part of their monthly budget.". I would think this point would put a point if the "For" column rather than the "Against". Maybe this increase will make people realize how much they would save by not smoking. But that would be too simple, wouldn't it?
