My Transformers Review

Transformers was awesome. The fact that I had free tickets from Westplextoday.com made it more awesome of course, but it was still awesome. The experience starts out awesome before Transformers even begins. There's a short trailer for the secret J.J. Abrams project opening on 1-18-08. The title is never mentioned, but here's a post about the project, "Cloverfield". Anyways, the movie is kinda long at over two hours, but it moves really fast. There are quite a few hilarious moments, especially the incredibly awkward scene revolving around "Sam's happy time". Bernie Mac has a pretty funny scene involving "grandma" and there are quite a few one-liners scattered throughout. Anyways, I am obviously not a professional movie reviewer but still Transformers is well worth seeing.

Kit Bond Made a Wise Vote

So the word on the street is that Sen. Bond crossed over to the dark side in voting to move the Immigration Bill forward in the Senate. I would beg to differ on that one. I think he made a wise choice voting to move the bill forward in exchange for a promise that his amendment to the bill would be voted on later on. Why waste any more time stalling this bill? Just move the thing forward to the next stage where amendments to the bill will be voted on. The American people don't want this bill. I heard a Gallup Poll said something like 3% of Americans favor this thing, that's not even the 14% that still believe in our Congress.

I cause I spoke too soon when I welcomed common sense to the party over on Randomness Without Ritalin. The Georgia Attorney General, Thurbert Baker, has said that he will appeal the decision. Who does Thurbert Baker think he is? I seriously doubt that the people of Georgia wanted their money spent prosecuting Genarlow Wilson in the first place. How do stupid prosecutors like this guy and Johnny Sutton look at themselves in the mirror each morning? I am sure they laugh all the way to the bank where they deposit your money. Talk about a great rate of return.

For some odd reason, the father of Josh Hancock has decided to sue based on the events that led to his son's fatal accident. Dean Hancock is suing the following people:

Mike Shannon's Restaurant for providing the alcohol

Mike Shannon's daughter because she is the restaurant manager

The guy whose car was stalled on the highway

The tow truck driver who stopped behind the stalled car and put on his flashers to warn vehicles

I don't understand this. Why would you put your son's memory on trial here? You are forcing someone to take a stance that it basically was your son's fault he got killed that night. I understand that I can not really understand what it is like to lose your son, but I am confident I would not act in this way. While you are at it Dean Hancock, why don't you sue the following people:

The woman who called Josh's phone that night as he was driving

The company that made the phone and the company that provided the cell phone service

Josh's Cardinal teammates he was going to meet

The city of St. Louis for giving Mike Shannon's a business license.

MODOT for not putting a shoulder there on 40

A-B for making the beer Josh probably drank

The Cardinals for paying Josh the money he may have used to buy the drinks

This was a tragic accident. Who can really say what caused it? Don't do this, Dean Hancock.

What Is Wrong With the Missouri Legislature?

Why is it that towards the close of the legislative session in Jeff City, lawmakers were scrambling to vote on items nullifying items they voted for earlier in the session? I find it wonderful that my tax dollars went towards not only paying them to goof off the first time, but then to fix what they screwed up. Some people seem to think that term limits are the problem. I just think they care too much about playing politics and not enough about the issues.

Here's my take on some issues that passed:

SB22: Allows firefighters in St. Louis and other cities with failing schools to live outside their home cities, subject to the approval of the city's board of aldermen. Grants cities the authority to allow diners to bring their pets to outdoor restaurants
--Interesting how those two issues relate to each other. The firefighter part I am definitely ok with, the pet part is just odd.

SB389: Authorizes the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, or MOHELA, to spend $350 million on college construction projects. Also consolidates the state's two largest scholarship programs and seeks to cap tuition increases.
--One of the biggest issues of the session. I am glad we can skim profits from an organization set up to provide money for tuition so, that we can build some buildings

Apparently a part of the MOHELA bill would allow former Sate Legislators with at least 8 years of experience in the Missouri General Assembly and a Bachelor''s Degree to be college professors. The bill would say that you couldn't hold their lack of a graduate degree against them. Of course, certain college professors now are against the plan because it would blow the lid on their cushy jobs now.

&nsbp I find it humorous that the NBA told Don Nelson, the Golden State Head Coach, that he couldn't bring beer into the post-game interview. This is the same NBA that had an All-Star Game in Vegas that just about out-Vegased Vegas.

Here's a good column from a paper in Long Beach, CA pointing out the overreaction in sports towards drinking after Josh Hancock's death, which probably had a lot more to do with the cell phone and the tow truck parked in the middle of a lane than alcohol.

Gilmer Hernandez Goes to Jail

Mexico continued its winning streak in U.S. courts with the conviction of Gilmer Hernandez back in December. Monday, Hernandez, a Sheriff's Deputy, was sentenced to a year and a day in jail andwas also ordered to pay $5,347 to the "victim" and a $5,000 fine. His crime? Shooting at the tires of a Suburban carrying illegals immigrants after the vehicle had tried to hit him during a traffic stop. An initial investigation cleared the deputy, but the Federal Government opened another investigation after talking to the illegals in the van, according to the Washington Times. The Federal Government had recommended a seven-year sentence for Hernandez, who leaves a wife and seven-month old daughter at home.

Hernandez stopped the vehicle after it ran a red light on the night of April 14, 2005. When he went to question the driver, he noticed that the passengers in the vehicle were crouched down. He then asked for identification and the vehicle took off, swerving towards him as it fled. He drew his firearm and shot 2 times at each rear tire. Further down the road, when the Suburban crashed, 8 or 9 illegals fled. The "victim" was found crouched in the back cargo area of the vehicle. A fragment from either the bullet or the vehicle had clipped her lip and broke two teeth. Gilmer Hernandez was convicted of violating her civil rights by "recklessly" shooting at the vehicle. The woman reported that she paid about $2,000 to be smuggled in in that Suburban.

Jeez, just think when all the illegals figure out they can turn jumping the border into a profitable venture.

Ignorant Sit-In Continues in St. Louis

Students, parents, and I think a School Board member are still sitting in Mayor Slay's office protesting his support of a state takeover of the St. Louis Public School District. They have given a list of demands to Mayor Slay, which you can view here. I love how they say:

"Explain in writing why you are treating our district differently then other districts"

I didn't realize there was a comparable school district in the St. Louis area that was as dysfunctional as the SLPSD. I am pretty sure the SLPSD brings a new whole meaning to the term "dysfunctional".

I was under the impression that one of the main reasons for the sit-in was fear that the state yanking the District's accreditation would keep some students from going to college or getting scholarships. The University of Missouri-Columbia and several other schools have already come out and said that it wouldn't affect admission.

Pubdef.net is probably the best place for coverage of the ignorant protest. The best video has to be this one where the Post-Dispatch reporter (at about the 4 min mark) tells one of the students that they are lying about the University of Hawaii pulling a girl's scholarship. True, it probably wasn't the best way for the reporter to bring that fact up, and it probably wasn't the most solid way to research the accusation, but it makes for a funny end to the video.

Here's an article I picked up from ksdk.com about how some ridiculous people are talking bad about Pizza Hut's Book-It program. How could you hate on a program that works like this: Read books--get free pizza?
The same people who want you to eat carrot sticks and celery all the time are saying that the program promotes bad eating habits. Others are saying that schools should be free of corporate sponsorship. Considering education in this country sucks and the government can't seem to grasp the concept of being fiscally responsible, what are we supposed to do? If we let the government be in charge of the program, you would only get a sticker and maybe a pencil for reading because all the money would be going to overpaid admin people.

Some students are apparently upset that Mitt Romney is set to give the commencement speech at Regents University in May. Pat Robertson, who founded the school, invited Romney to speak. Some students and alumni are upset because they don't believe that as a Mormon Romney really represents their Christian views, according to this article.

How again to you disagree with the founder of your University? There wouldn't be a Regents University without Pat Robertson.

Lie Put Ramos and Compean in Jail

The trial transcript of the BP2 trial is now available and "surprise surprise" it confirms that the dirty Mexican drug runner was involved in bringing another load of drugs into the U.S. AFTER he was given immunity for load he brought over in February of that year. The judge in the case ruled that the defense could not bring up that October incident because the trial was not about the dirty Mexican drug runner, it was about the fine Americans shooting the dirty Mexican drug runner.

Mr. dirty Mexican drug runner painted a picture of himself on the stand of an inexperienced drug runner who was just doing it in February for some extra money to pay mama's medical bills. The judge in the case apparently went along with the lie in not allowing the jury to see that this was a man who proceeded to continue his drug running ways despite having his urethra severed by a bullet in Feb. It's too bad there weren't two fine Americans around to "illegally pursue him at a high rate of speed" and illegally shoot him in October like there were in February.

Illegals Win Again; Gilmer Hernandez Case

Here is the story of Gilmer Hernandez, a sheriff's deputy in Edwards County, Texas. Mr. Hernandez, 25, was convicted on Dec 1. of violating the civil rights of an illegal alien who was being smuggled to Austin in a Suburban. Hernandez, stopped the Suburban late at night for running a red light. When he attempted to talk to the driver, the vehicle sped away. Hernandez fired 4 shots at the back of the Suburban, aiming for the rear tires and flattening one. One of the illegals in the car sustained a minor injury that a doctor didn't even think could have been caused by a bullet at first.

New reports are saying that the ballistics used in the BP2 case do not support the claim that a bullet fired from Ignacio Ramos' gun hit the dirty Mexican drug smuggler. Supposedly a Department of Homeland Security agent testified under oath that a bullet from Ramos' weapon hit the dirty Mexican drug smuggler.

A belated kudos to Rep. Todd Akin, who represents Missouri 2nd Congressional District in the House, for supporting Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean with his support of this bill He is the only elected Missouri Official in D.C. who has supported this cause to my knowledge.

Monica Ramos, the wife of Ignacio Ramos, had some harsh words for President Bush after the State of the Union Address in D.C. She was a guest at the speech of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (D-Calif). She gave her two cents to World Net Daily here. She would like to point out, among other things, that her husband was clearly trying to protect our borders when he shot the dirty Mexican drug smuggler. So, when she hears President Bush talking about securing our borders, two plus two doesn't exactly add up to four.

Now I won't go as far as she did in placing all the blame on the POTUS, but I would appreciate a little more sympathy out of him. No one can blame her for speaking out, however. She is the one who has to raise kids whose father is in prison. Interesting development in the BP2 case as cited in a story posted on World Net Daily a short time ago. Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were given mandatory jail sentences because they were charged under 18 U.S.C. Section 924(c). The WND article points out that the law was intended to apply to law enforcement officers only when they were committing crimes clearly outside of their official duties. Police officers have been charged with this before when they were committing crimes because the court ruled that no one is allowed to carry a gun while committing a crime.

Here is the text of the code they were charged under

If this law actually applied to this case, then the Court would have been mandated to give Ramos and Compean five years each for just having weapons in their possession; weapons the US government required them to carry. If that were the case, then how would Border Patrol Agents pursuing a suspected drug smuggler have been "a crime of violence or drug trafficking crime". Because the Agents fired, Johnny Sutton, the Prosecutor, said that the Court was mandated to sentence them to 10 years each.

The reason this code doesn't apply is because there was no crime of violence. The Agents were merely pursuing a dirty Mexican drug runner who ran when the Agents tried to apprehend him. No one in their right mind could connect the dots between a code intended to punish criminals committing crimes with guns and two Federal Agents pursuing a suspected criminal. I don't know about you, but people don't run from the cops unless they have something to hide. And although I don't know any dirty Mexican drug runners personally; I assume none of them leave home without heat. That would be like a woman going to the mall without plastic.

Walter B. Jones, a North Carolina Republican in the US House of Representatives, wrote a letter to Alberto Gonzalez on Oct. 11 2006 explaining how this code didn't apply in the BP2 case. I apologize to everyone for not picking this up earlier. I will be sure to call Sen. Bond and Sen. McCaskill from Missouri ASAP to enlighten them on this development since they haven't gotten around to addressing this issue yet. They must have been busy with more important things.

The New York Post could have a problem on its hands regarding the interview a day or so ago with Michael Devlin. This story from KSDK.com says that Devlin's lawyers are accusing the reporter of saying she was Devlin's friend in order to get in to talk with him.

Interesting note: Michael Devlin is being held apart from the common riffraff in the jail because people are worried the riffraff will hurt him. Agents Ramos and Compean (the Border Patrol 2) were sent to Federal Prison with much more dangerous riffraff because a judge ruled that there was no reason for them to be free during their appeals and that the jail didn't pose that much of a threat to them. Funny how our justice system works in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Ok, so that may have been a cheap shot, drawing a line between those two , but I am still upset and I run the show here.

18 Fire and Police Agencies are taking Missouri to court over part of the new minimum wage law that went into effect on Jan 1. The law, which raised the minimum wage to $6.50, also required people to be paid overtime when they work more than 40 hours in a week. Public service agencies, like fire and police departments,typically were exempt from that requirement in the past. Policemen and firemen typically aren't paid enough money as it is for what they do. At least give them some overtime pay.

She basically ruled that there wasn't a reason for them to be free during their appeals. Former Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are scheduled to report to jail tomorrow to serve 11 and 12 years respectively. This is a gross injustice. This blog has covered the story several times, but you can read more here.
I called both Senator Bond's office and Senator McCaskill's office today looking to voice my opinion on the issue. The representative for Sen. Bond would only say "Sen. Bond has not issued a statement on the matter" I asked if he planned to, considering the agents are scheduled to report to jail tomorrow. She again repeated her canned response. My call to Sen. McCaskill's office resulted in me speaking to a machine and it telling me someone would call me back.
President Bush issued 16 pardons last month. He has issued 58 during his Presidency. Former President Clinton issued 396 in his 8 years in office.

This post from the Power Line blog strikes me as quite funny. The new president of William and Mary college has decided to take down the cross on the altar in the campus chapel. Apparently, when people used the chapel they had the option to take the cross down and 15-20% of wedding were doing that. I don't even understand why you would have a wedding in a chapel if you had a problem with the cross. A wedding is for your marriage in the "eyes of god" as far as I understand it, if you didn't like the cross, go to the courthouse to get hitched. But seriously, who ever heard of a chapel without a cross? Isn't a chapel without a cross on par with a VFW hall or a ballroom in a hotel?

Watching news coverage of the Ownby and Hornbeck recovery tonight you can't miss Jeff Hadler. Hadler lives in the same apartment complex apparently and is the one that tipped off the police last night about the truck. KSDK was interviewing him and you had to feel sorry for the guy because they couldn't even give him an umbrella. If you switched to Fox 2 right after the KSDK interview, there was Hadler again. Fox 2 was nice enough to give him an umbrella though. Apparently, Hadler had been using the suspect's unsecured wireless internet connection and had gone so far as to figure out who owned the connection and research Devlin online.

Not only was Ben Ownby found today, missing since Monday, but Shawn Freakin' Hornbeck was found too. Hornbeck had been missing since '02. They were found in an apartment in Kirkwood. Two Kirkwood police officers saw the truck last night when going to serve a warrant. Micheal J. Devlin, 41 of Kirkwood, has been charged with one charge of kidnapping and is being held on $1 million bond. Devlin supposedly managed an Imo's in Kirkwood, according to KMOV.

So, what the hell happened in Somalia? Some of you may have heard a bit on the news about the U.S. conducting air strikes in Somalia and thought "Uhh, did they mean Iraq?" I didn't know what the heck was going on either until I started listening to Crane Durham on Nothing But Truth tonight. Crane was talking with Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, who is pretty much a genius and has a book coming out soon.
Here is what I gathered is going on. Somalia didn't have a real government for about 16 years and now they have a very young transitional government just getting started. A group called the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) is fighting their way across Somalia. They were trying to overtake the town where the government was holed up but underestimated what they were up against. The Ethiopian military had devoted a huge percentage of its forces to protecting the Somalian government and had enlisted the military expertise of the United States to help. The Ethiopians successfully fought off the ICU forces with some help from U.S. helicopters. The ICU is connected with Al Qaeda.
Apparently now there is a feud going on between the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department. Davved just dropped that one. The problem is that the Pentagon wants to give money to the transitional government to help defeat the ICU. The State Department wants to give the money to Somalia little by little to dictate how they will handle things. For some reason the State Department wants the Somalians to sit down and talk with the ICU, at least the ones who are still alive. Yeah, and while we are at it how about we sit down and talk with Iran. We should just have a big tea party with AhmadenaNUTJOB, Kim Don Small Dong, Fidel Castro.

Common Sense Loses Again with Bolton Gone

Apparently if the United States Ambassador to the United Nations isn't ready to coddle the nutjobs from the other nations, he won't keep his position long. John Bolton handed in his resignation a day or two ago announcing he isn't seeing enough support in the Senate to hold onto his post. The United Nations doesn't need more sissies like the North Korea Ambassador, they need people who will speak what is on their mind and call people out like Bolton.
