Class, What Does Illegal Mean?

Do we really have to start teaching school children what "illegal" means? Things like this article from the Washington Times make me wonder. The article deals with states scaling back the use of state services by illegal immigrants. So basically it is like Wal-Mart scaling back on shoplifters? (Wait, no Wal-Mart did the opposite. . scratch that) Why are illegals getting all these services in the first place? The Times reports that 39 states have legislation that keeps illegals from shoplifting on my dime. It's about time.
A line near the bottom of the article caught my attention.
"Federal law requires states to provide some services to illegal aliens, including education and emergency medical care,"
I can see the emergency medical care, I mean lets at least have a little compassion. But why are we required to pay for the education of little illegals? Not only are we going to have to pay to give them a basic education but, we'll also have to pay for the extra help they need to learn english as well as eventually paying to get who knows what printed in spanish because the ACLU says so. Cmon, Mommy and Daddy are already getting a free ride and probably sending money back to Mexico to finance future freeloading.
Please someone tell me why common sense doesn't prevail more in life?
