Why?

Why does the U.S. Government have to do stupid crap like the recent bill that linked a raise in minimum wage to killing the "death tax"? I think it is pretty common sense that the death tax needs to be axed. I mean c'mon, the money is already taxed when it is made, then whatever you buy is taxed, then if you buy a house, that keeps getting taxed. Why do we have an insane law on the books that punishes the heirs by taxing the money yet again? This bill didn't go far enough in killing the death tax. Just take it off the books outright. This bill would have only increased the estate valuation limit before the tax kicks in.

The minimum wage is an entirely different story. This bill would have increased the minimum wage by $2.10 to $7.25 an hour. That's almost a 41% increase. That may be a little drastic. Raising the minimum wage will have a trickle up effect for all hourly workers. So, by passing this, everyone would figure they were worth an extra $2.15/hour. This would have a killer effect on small businesses.

Let's be honest, there's alot of people out there who aren't worth $7.25/hr, so why pay them that? You could just fire them if you didn't think they did the work to deserve that, but then you better not let the ACLU catch wind of that. Lawyers make alot more that $7.25/hr. In a perfect world, people would get a fair shake to prove they were worth enough to live on. The answer is to create more jobs, so that there is more competition for the lower jobs. By create more jobs, I mean create more jobs for LEGAL Americans. There's no way a small business is going to pay $7.25/hr plus taxes to someone when they could just pay an illegal $5/hr in cash and have one less employee as far as the government is concerned.

Maybe I see where the government is going with wanting a 40% hike in the minimum wage. That means those people are paying more taxes to the government and qualify for less federal aid because they will "make too much" in the eyes of the government. This will give them more money to pay for pet projects. Actually, why does the government need more money, don't they just make it up like monopoly money?

So, why couldn't our lawmakers just have voted on two seperate bills? Uhh..umm.. I'm not really sure. I guess it is another example of political stupidity.
