Pardon the Border Patrol Agents

Monday, October 23, 2006

The two former Border Patrol Agents convicted of violating a Mexican drug runner's civil liberties by shooting him after he tussled with one the agents and proceeded to run have been sentenced to 11 and 12 years respectively. This is asinine. I'll admit they were wrong to not report the shooting to their superiors, but they also didn't think they hit the drug runner. Giving them each over a decade in jail? This Mexican had over 700 pounds of pot on him.
I loved the comment by one of the drug runner's attorneys that not convicting the men would have "put a bull's eye on every illegal alien." That sure is a novel idea. Then maybe they wouldn't feel free to risk their lives and our money sneaking into our country to freeload off of us.
The drug runner is suing in U.S. Court for $5 million, saying he sustained permanent damage. I guess being shot in the ass keeps him from running his drugs. We don't owe this guy shit. If he hadn't been trying to bring drugs into our country and then run when the Agents tried to stop him, he wouldn't have gotten shot. How the heck do certain lawyers go so wrong that they think prosecuting our fine Border Patrol Agents is the right thing to do in this case? Both the U.S. House and Senate are expected to hold hearings about the case and hopefully they will encourage President Bush to wipe these convictions off the books.
